Proving a card is genuine

The QR code and serial on every card, what a stranger sees, and revoking a card issued in error.

A report card is a document people act on — a transfer, a job, a scholarship. Every card GradeFlex prints carries a QR code and a short serial so anyone holding the paper can check it without an account and without ringing the school.

What a check tells them

Whether the card is genuine and was issued by your school
Whether it is still valid, or has been revoked
Whether the marks on the paper still match what the school holds

That last one is the point. A card that was genuine when printed but has since been altered in a photocopier fails the check, because the marks no longer match. A forgery with a made-up serial fails immediately.

How much a stranger sees

Academics → Report card verification, then choose a level:

Minimal — genuine or not, and nothing else.
Standard — the learner's name, class and term.
Full — the marks as well.

Parent contact details are never shown at any level.

Revoking a card

If a card went out in error, revoke it from the verification page. Anyone checking it afterwards is told it is no longer valid. The card is not deleted — the record of it having existed is the useful part.

Before cards leave the school

For GradeFlex, not the school: the address the QR encodes comes from GRADEFLEX_PUBLIC_BASE_URL. If it is not set when the system is installed, printed codes point at the server itself and a parent scanning one gets nothing. Set it before printing anything that leaves the building.
