Positions and result analysis
How a position is worked out, what the subject-count divisor does, and what the analysis screens show.
How a position is worked out
Every learner gets an overall average: their result in each subject
under the active grading mode, averaged. Where project work is switched on it
counts as one more subject. Positions are then ranked on that number.
The average printed on the card is the number ranked. They are one
figure, so a card can never show an average that disagrees with the position
printed next to it.
Ties
Two learners on the same average share a position, and the next learner takes
the position their count implies — two firsts, then a third. This is the same
competition ranking a school does by hand.
The expected number of subjects
On the Grading page. It answers: what should we divide by?
- 0 (the default) — divide by however many subjects the learner
actually sat. Missing a paper does not pull the average down.
- A number, say 10 — always divide by ten. A learner who sat four of
ten has their total divided by ten, so missed papers count against them.
Set it only if you mean it. It changes the average printed on the card,
the position, and the analysis together. It is also the only way an
AoI-out-of-3 average can fall below 0.9 and be reported as Ungraded —
which means the learner missed activities and cannot be graded, not that they
did badly.
Result analysis
Academics → Results analysis. Three views, scoped to a class,
a stream or the school:
- Overview — how the group performed, pass rates, the grade spread.
- By subject — which subjects carried the group and which dragged it,
and the teacher against each.
- By learner — ranked, with each learner's subject count, and
downloadable as a spreadsheet.
Analysis uses the same ranking as the report cards, so the two always agree.
Analysis is a paid feature and stops when a subscription lapses.
Entering marks and printing individual cards do not.
