Staff training

We train the staff, not just install the software

The new competency-based curriculum changed how a script becomes a grade, and most schools were handed the change without being shown the arithmetic. We run training for teachers and heads of department on exactly that — and we have been doing it since before GradeFlex was software.

What a session covers

  • How a script becomes a grade — bases, scores of 1 to 4, performance levels, weights, and the weighted average
  • Reading the conversion tables — and why a five-base item and a six-base item need different ones
  • Writing an analytical rubric — descriptors two examiners can apply to the same script and agree
  • Setting an item that reaches every base — worked through on real items in your own subjects
  • The compensatory system — what it means for a learner who has had one bad paper, in numbers
  • Recording it properly — so the marks you keep can actually produce a grade at the end of term

How it runs

  • At your school, with your own staff and your own subjects
  • A half day for the grading system; a full day if you want staff to leave having written and marked their own items
  • Departments can be split so History and Geography work on History and Geography items, not generic examples
  • You keep the materials

It does not require you to use GradeFlex. Several schools we have trained were still on paper or in spreadsheets at the time.
