Choosing a grading mode
The five ways GradeFlex works out a mark, what each shows on the card, and how to pick.
GradeFlex offers the five ways of working out a mark that Ugandan secondary
schools use under the competency-based curriculum. Pick the one your school
already assesses by and the card will agree with the one you issued last
term.
Activities of Integration are marked out of 3, not out of 100. That is
the competency-based scale. GradeFlex converts them for you when the mode asks
for a percentage — you always enter the raw out-of-3 mark.

Picking one
- If your school reports competency only, use AoI out of 3. It prints
identifiers and levels rather than percentages, and it swaps the grade rubric
on the card for the four-band identifier table.
- If you weight coursework against a final exam, use 20 / 80. It is
the most common choice.
- If you sit one exam and report it, use Single score. In this mode
the activity columns disappear from the entry grid entirely, because they
would not affect anything.
Settings that go with the mode
- Number of activities (1–5) — how many C columns teachers get.
- Display activities on report card — enter them but do not print
them. Useful when the card is already crowded.
- Consider project work — adds a project mark, which counts as an
extra subject in the average. Automatically suppressed in AoI-out-of-3,
because a percentage has nowhere to sit on an out-of-3 scale.
- Show position / rank — whether positions print.
- Auto class-teacher comment — fills the comment from the school's
comment bands when the teacher has not written one.

Leave at 0 unless you know you want it.
A term that was marked differently
Settings live on the class, and any single term can override them. On the
Grading page, pick the term from the box at the top and save; that term then
uses its own settings and every other term keeps the class default.
This is how you reprint an old term correctly. If you ran three
activities in Term 1 and five in Term 2, set the override once and Term 1
will always reprint the way it was actually marked.
If a change seems to do nothing, check whether that term has its own
settings. Editing the class default does not touch a term that overrides it —
the Grading page warns you by name when this applies.
